This past weekend the 11th Annual Tuna, Wahoo, Dolphin Shootout Tournament was held at Gators on the Pass. Steve Yerrid, Captain Ed Thompson, Jim Zambito and Frank Perri, on the boat Justice took all the honors by catching the largest fish of the two-day event. They landed six blackfin tuna (largest 21.2 pounds), one wahoo (18.32 pounds) and two dolphin, one of which weighed 38.24 pounds.

On Saturday the team fished at least 100 miles offshore. They trolled "Billy Baits,' on which the dolphin and wahoo were caught.

Overnight the crew fished for grouper and mangrove snapper, as well as amberjack. Although these fish were not part of the tournament they returned with an impressive catch. A two-fish aggregate of amberjack weighed just more than 98 pounds.

Early Sunday the quest was to find blackfin tuna. Thompson made a run 30 miles closer to shore. Stopping near a little-known wreck paid off.

The next nearest boat with an entry that was competitive was Marlin Hunter, with Sid Rice and Cal Johnson on board with Capt. Larry Hoffman and Robert Fedor. It had wahoo (14.64 pounds) and dolphin (24.4). Ed Medley's Kodiak turned in a tuna (16.4).DL: The tournament was winner-take-all. Along with cash as prizes, the Justice team took home an arm-load of trophies, one for each species of fish.
