Patricia Mitchell recently joined AmSouth Bank in Port Richey as vice president and branch manager of the Embassy Hills office. Mitchell has more than 25 years of banking experience. She goes to AmSouth from Republic Bank, where she was vice president for 12 years. She holds a degree in business management from Eckerd College. Mitchell is involved in Calusa Business and Professional Women's Organization, Top of the Bay American Women's Association, Leadership Pasco, West Pasco Chamber of Commerce and American Business Women's Association.

Richard R. Balkcom, president and owner for Balkcom Associates Inc. of New Port Richey, was recently named the 2001 New England Securities Producer of the Year at the annual leaders' meeting in Maui, Hawaii. In 2001 Balkcom was recognized as the Outstanding Citizen of the Year 2001, the same year the company received the title of Business of the Year by the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce. He serves as a board director for the Pasco Economic Development Council and is the first vice president of the West Pasco Economic Chamber of Commerce. He is board treasurer for both the Trinity Rotary Club and Youth and Family Alternatives, and is the chair of the Pasco Forum steering committee.

The Center For Independence Inc. of New Port Richey, recently announced that CEO Emile Laurino was elected as chairman of the Florida Conference of Executives of ARC Florida for the second year in a row. This will allow Laurino to continue in his role as an advocate for the right of the developmentally disabled.

Construction is under way on the first phase of an 8-mile nature trail, as three mini parks near completion at Seven Oaks, a 4,000-home master planned community in Wesley Chapel in southeast Pasco County.

Heidi Tuttle-Beisner, director of Pasco/Hernando Operations for DUTTERealty.COM, closed a 10-year lease for Shapes Total Fitness. Shapes will occupy a portion of Ridge Road Center at the southeast corner of Ridge Road and Congress Avenue in Port Richey. The fitness center for women is expected to open by Jan. 1.
