Charles George received this year's Ybor City Rotarian of the Year award. George was recognized for his outstanding achievements as club treasurer.

Mario Garcia received last year's Ybor City Rotarian of the Year award. Garcia was recognized for his extensive community involvement, especially his leadership in supporting the Gift of Life program, which brings critically ill children from Central America for life-saving operations to Tampa Bay area hospitals. He joined the Ybor City Rotary Club in 1971 and has been honored as Rotarian of the Year three times.

Ruben Alfaras has been installed as the new Ybor City Rotary Club president. Alfaras is a Business Development Officer in charge of the Tampa Loan Production Office for California Bank & Trust. He specializes in small business lending through the Small Business Administration. He has been a Rotarian since 1994.

The Wesley Chapel Chamber of Commerce recently held elections for the 2002-2003 Board of Directors. They are Joe Caradonna, owner of Hot Diggity Dog; Lutfi Jadallah, owner of Solutions One Maritime Inc.; Pamela Murphy, proprietor with Outback Steakhouse; Jennifer Seney, leader of Quail Hollow Community Group; Kirsten Joyer, assistant principal of Thomas E. Weightman Middle School; Sandra H. Smith, owner of A Basquet Kase; Terri Kadyk, AT&T Wireless; Jean Nathe, owner of Trade+Mark Sales; Michael E. Shaver, financial adviser with Merrill Lynch. The board members will be sworn in at the annual awards and installation banquet on Sept. 6 at the Tampa Bay Golf and Country Club.

Michael S. Lamount has joined the law firm of Fowler White Boggs Banker as an associate. Lamount received his bachelor's degree from University of Florida and his law degree from Stetson University College of Law. He will practice in the firm's Business Litigation Department, where he will concentrate on the areas of brokerage firms, financial institutions, corporations and their associated people in arbitration, litigation in state and federal courts and in investigations and proceedings before state and federal regulatory agencies and self-regulatory organizations.

George Jirotka, a shareholder with the law firm of Fowler White Boggs Banker, was appointed by Gov. Jeb Bush to the 2nd Appellate District Judicial Nomination Commission. This Judicial Nomination Commission recommends to the governor applicants for appointments to the 2nd District Court of Appeal.

Kenneth G. Turkel, a shareholder with the law firm of Williams Schifino Mangione & Steady, P.A., has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Hillsborough County Bar Association. Turkel's practice is focused in the areas of business and business tort litigation, white-collar criminal defense, general civil and employment litigation.

The law firm of Thompson, Sizemore and Gonzalex announces that Richard Bradford has been selected to serve on the Judicial Nominating Committee for the 13th Judicial Circuit.

Cheryl L. Johnson has joined Alph-Omega Title Insurance Co. as the senior branch manager of the New Tampa office. Johnson holds a bachelor's degree from the University of South Florida.

Rodney Clark has been appointed managing broker for the new Prudential Tropical Realty office, 33920 U.S. 19 in Palm Harbor. Clark began his real estate career in 1990 as a sales associate in Minnesota. He moved to the bay area in 1993 and was most recently associated with Arvida Realty Services, now known as Coldwell Banker Real Estate.

Sean Riley has been appointed senior vice president and operations officer of Sterling Payment Technologies. Sterling Payment Technologies, headquartered in Tampa, is an electronic payment processing company.

Karen Taylor, P.A.C., has been named associate medical director of NanbacLabs, L.L.C. Taylor has a master's degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine. She comes to NanobacLabs from The Blood and Marrow Transplant Group of Georgia.

Christa Grancey has joined NanbacLabs, L.L.C. as a sales associate. Grancey has a bachelor's of business from the University of Hawaii.

Marian P. McCulloch is president-elect of the Hillsborough County Bar Association. McCulloch is a shareholder with Allen Dell, P.A. and is board certified in family and marital law.

Pugh and Paula Peterson have purchased Magnolia Post, Inc. The video post-production company which was started in 1996 as Digital Video Art has been operating in the Hyde Park area for the past six years.
