MIKE HAMPTON REPORT

LAST OUTING: In a 5-1 loss to Arizona on Monday, the Colorado pitcher and Homosassa native earned the decision by allowing 3 earned runs on 5 hits in 6 innings, walking 2 and striking out 2. He was touched for two homers. Hampton went 2-for-2 at the plate to raise his average to .357.

NEXT SCHEDULED START: Sunday at Milwaukee.

THE SKINNY: This hasn't been Hampton's season. Despite pitching fairly well Monday, he got little support from his teammates, who were held in check by Arizona ace Curt Schilling (17-3). The effort came one week after the Diamondbacks pounded out 13 hits and scored 10 runs off Hampton (a career-worst showing) in a 12-3 loss. Since starting his Rockies career 9-2, he is 10-23. The Rocky Mountain News noted Tuesday that seven of Hampton's losses this season have come against pitchers selected to the All-Star Game. Four of the other five were against the ace of the opposition's staff.

STAT OF THE WEEK: Hampton has allowed five or more earned runs in 10 of his 21 starts.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: "He's like the bull rider who keeps getting tough draws but keeps climbing on," Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said of Hampton. "He's had tough draws all the way through."
