City Council members Monday voted unanimously to schedule a public hearing on the city's annual property tax rate at 6 p.m. Sept. 9 in City Hall.
Council members tentatively agreed to keep the millage rate the same as it has been for a decade, 6.42 mills, or $6.42 per $1,000 of taxable property value. However, higher assessments still will make a homeowner's tax bill increase.
Both the annual budget and the millage rate must get final approval at a second public hearing, which council members scheduled for Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. in City Hall.
