Cat scratch, dog bite might lead to rabies shots

A woman was scratched by a cat described as a black domestic long-hair Sunday in the 900 block of Jones Avenue in Inverness, said the Department of Public Safety, Animal Control. If the cat is not located by Wednesday, rabies vaccinations will have to be administered to the woman.

A man was bitten by a dog described as a light tan dachshund mix July 17, while walking on Rails to Trails near Citrus Springs, Animal Control said. If the dog is not found by Saturday, rabies vaccinations will have to be administered to the man.

More than 52 tons of phone books have been collected in the 2002 Telephone Book Recycling Program, according to the Department of Public Works Solid Waste Management Division. The program continues until July 31. Phone books can be placed in the last door of the plastic bottle recycling container. Look for the bright green containers and the slot marked "Sprint Telephone Directory Recycling." Containers are at all Residential Recycling Drop-Off Centers and other locations:
