Cat scratch, dog bite may lead to rabies shots

A woman was scratched by a cat described as a black domestic long-hair Sunday in the 900 block of Jones Avenue in Inverness, said the Department of Public Safety, Animal Control. If the cat is not located by Wednesday, rabies vaccinations will have to be administered to the woman.

A man was bitten by a dog described as a light tan dachshund mix July 17 while walking on Rails to Trails near Citrus Springs, Animal Control said. If the dog is not found by Saturday, rabies vaccinations will have to be administered to the man.

Workshops to teach how

to make rain barrels

INVERNESS _ Workshops on making a rain barrel will be offered from 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 21 and 24 at the Citrus County Extension Office, 3600 S. Florida Ave. (U.S. 41), at the county fairgrounds. Rain barrels can be used to catch and save rainwater for use in any nondrinking purpose, such as plant irrigation. Registration is $20 for the workshop, which includes a rain barrel that will be completed and taken home after the session. Deadline is Aug. 7. For people with disabilities requiring special accommodations, contact the extension office five days before the program. Call the extension office at 726-2141.
