Two members of the Hudson High School's Students Against Destructive Decisions club and their Pasco County Sheriff's Office adviser, Joe Cucchiara, returned this week from a national conference in Anaheim, Calif. In May the team was named one of the two best in the state based on a seat belt campaign it ran last fall. President Mandie Santos and secretary Tabitha Eisenbeis, who attended the conference, said they plan to establish an e-mail hotline for students and to sell calling cards that students can use to call for a safe ride home.
U.S. 19 accident kills man
PORT RICHEY _ A 22-year-old man drove through a stop sign on Bougenville Drive about 9:25 p.m. Wednesday, was hit by an oncoming vehicle on U.S. 19 and was thrown from his Chevrolet, the Florida Highway Patrol said. About five hours later, George Edward Blauvelt III died at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. Blauvelt was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said.
