One person died and two others were injured Thursday in an accident on Parsons Avenue, south of Avocado Drive.
Deputies say the driver, 81-year-old John Gerista, may have lost consciousness. Just after 3:30 p.m., his 2000 Chevrolet Impala veered off the road, hitting mailboxes, utility poles and street signs before coming to rest upside down.
Gerista, of 16 Briarwood Lane, Thonotosassa, died at the scene.
His two passengers, Dorothy Woolard, 86, and Helen Reardon, 81, were injured. Woolard was taken to Tampa General Hospital and was in guarded condition Friday. Reardon was taken to University Community Hospital and was in stable condition Friday.
Crash on I-75 sends three to hospital
Three people were hospitalized Friday after the minivan they were traveling in overturned on Interstate 75.
The minivan rolled over on I-75 near San Antonio about 3 p.m., officials said, and all three people in it were ejected. The crash victims _ a man, a woman and a teenage girl _ were flown to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa.
The crash created a traffic backup that at one point stretched more than 8 miles.
