A Department of Children and Families counselor has been fired for allegedly driving drunk with a baby girl in her care riding in the back seat.
Mirla Pronga, 56, apparently fell asleep drunk in her car Thursday, police Sgt. Raul Pedroso said.
Officers found the car idling in the middle of a road in this Miami suburb, and noticed the 7-month-old girl crying in her car seat, Pedroso said.
Pronga had taken the child from her foster home earlier in the day to visit the baby's mother, DCF spokesman Miguel Milanes said. The mother called police after Pronga failed to show up.
Pronga was charged with driving under the influence and felony child neglect, Pedroso said.
DCF district administrator Charles Auslander fired Pronga. He said she was an 11-year employee with a good reputation.
