Remember spending summer evenings on the porch, lemonade in hand? There's nothing quite as relaxing as the sound of crickets in the yard and the gentle swaying of the porch swing. Now do-it-yourselfers can recapture that mood and create their own quiet retreat with this easy-to-build porch swing project. The swing measures 40 inches long by 24 inches high by 24 inches deep. It can be hung from the ceiling of a porch, patio or carport or from a tree or homemade frame. The seat is suspended on standard chain and can be raised, lowered or tilted back as desired.
All of the project's pieces are traceable except the slats, which are straight cuts of standard pine lumber. Just trace the curved parts onto plywood and cut them out, then cut the 20 slat pieces. Assemble using carriage bolts, machine screws and nails. Apply paint or stain, attach the chain, hang the finished swing in a favorite spot and pour the lemonade. The Porch Swing plan, No. 288, is $9.95 and includes full-size traceable patterns, step-by-step directions with photos and a shopping list and cutting schedule. A package of swing and glider plans, No. C119, is $25.95 and includes plans for this project plus a hanging loveseat and two gliders. A catalog picturing hundreds of do-it-yourself projects is $2. Prices include postage and handling. Please allow about four weeks for delivery (for rush delivery, add $1 per item up to $3 maximum and allow about two weeks).
