Concerns fading as home numbers drop

Published Sep. 3, 2005

A plan to build 95 homes in front of VillaRosa drew the wrath of neighbors. It drew unified opposition from planners when 83 houses were proposed.

But now, at 73 houses, most of the controversy is but a memory. The proposal by Pulte Homes heads for a vote of Hillsborough County commissioners on Tuesday with endorsements of all county planners and only muted concerns from VillaRosa to the north.

The neighborhood would be built with a loop road on a 37-acre cow pasture between Sierra Pines Boulevard and VillaRosa's Boulevard of the Roses. (Petition 02-0048)

KEYSTONE: County commissioners will hear plans on Tuesday for a traditional-style town center project proposed for the northwest corner or Race Track Road and Nine Eagles Drive. If approved, the development would likely include a 129,000 square feet of commercial space, 90,000 square feet of office space, 43,000 square feet of mixed-use residential units, a 120-room hotel and 420 homes. County staff is recommending county commissioners approve the project. (Petition 02-0357)

TOWN 'N COUNTRY: Rottlund Homes is proposing a townhouse complex on Linebaugh Avenue, east of Henderson Road. The project would include 136 individually owned units on 18 acres owned by the Diocese of St. Petersburg. County staff have endorsed the development. (Petition 01-1050)

CARROLLWOOD: Developers are seeking county permission to rezone nearly 9 acres on the south side of Linebaugh Avenue, west of Gunn Highway. Zoning hearing master Martin H. Smith Jr. recommended approval of 41,000 square feet for business uses and a dance studio. (Petition 02-0522)

NORTHDALE: Budget Rent-A-Car wants a land-use change to operate a truck rental services center at the Pep Boys repair shop on N Dale Mabry Highway, north of Hoedt Road. (Petition 02-0518)
