Pet telethon to benefit local Humane Society

(ran East, West, Beach editions)

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay's third annual PETelethon will be from 1-5 p.m. Aug. 3. The event will be televised on WFLA-Ch. 8.

This years' goal is $150,000, with proceeds to benefit programs at the organization, including the shelter, the spay and neuter clinic, and Animals and the Humane Education program for schools.

The program will include segments on animal behavior, training and nutrition and protecting your pets during a hurricane. Pledges may be made on-line at www.humanesocietytampa.org.

Wine store fundraiser

to benefit homeless

A Brighter Day, 6981 First Ave. N, St. Petersburg, a non-profit organization commited to restoring homeless families to self-sufficiency, will have a fundraiser in conjunction with Uncorked Fine Wines and Accessories, 2706 Fourth St. N, St. Petersburg.

From 6:30 to 8 p.m. each Friday in August, Uncorked will host a night of light appetizers and fine wine. Cost is $10. A portion of the proceeds will benefit A Brighter Day so the organization can continue to help homeless families with children.
