Spilled debris from truck accident closes I-75 lanes

The northbound lanes of Interstate 75 in southern Hillsborough County were closed for about four hours Saturday afternoon after a dump truck overturned, spilling debris over the highway, authorities said.

The rock-hauling truck crashed on I-75 near Big Bend Road, not far from Sun City Center, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Officers closed the interstate because the amount of spilled debris made it unsafe. They rerouted traffic down nearby state roads, but at one point northbound traffic on I-75 was backed up for miles, to the Manatee County line.

The interstate reopened about 5 p.m.
