An updated look at history

After $3-million worth of renovation, Florida's Old Capitol, containing a new Florida Center of Political History and Governance museum, opened Monday in Tallahassee. Historical relics on display include guns dating from the state's territorial days, the inaugural gown of first lady Mary Call Collins from 1957, and an uncomfortable reminder of the era of segregation, a restroom door labeled "White ladies." The old Senate, House and Supreme Court chambers are restored to how they looked in 1902 when the Old Capitol opened.

One of the exhibits, left, is a spittoon found in the Old Capitol wall during a previous remodeling.
