Moffitt center employee admits embezzlement

A 33-year-old Plant City woman pleaded guilty Monday to a charge of grand theft involving the embezzlement of $129,000 from the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center.

Prosecutors said Linda Carrick, who worked at the cancer center as a payroll supervisor, electronically transferred money to herself 25 to 35 times between October 1999 and August 2001.

"In my opinion, the level of education, planning and sophistication it took to commit this offense was a very high level," said prosecutor Wayne Chalu.

Carrick could receive up to 30 years in prison when she is sentenced Jan. 22.
