The Hernando County Planning and Zoning Commission voted 3-2 Monday to allow an assisted living facility in a Spring Hill home. The owner, Kristin Keeney, asked to operate the facility out of a house at 21 Cottondale Ave. She wanted it to accommodate up to six people. However, the commission limited her to four residents because the design plans did not allow for enough parking. Neither Keeney nor her family plan to live there. Several neighbors said they opposed the assisted living facility because of the traffic it will bring and its nature as a business in a residential area. "The very location is the heart of a subdivision and is not an appropriate land use for this," said Jim Polk, who lives nearby on Horizon Drive. Commission Chairman Bob DeWitt and commissioners Nick Nicholson and Al Sevier voted to approve the request. Commissioners Anna Liisa Covell and Anthony Palmieri voted against it.
