A 14-year-old Crystal River High School student was arrested about 8 a.m. Tuesday after he reportedly told other students that he had planted bombs around the school. The students reported this to school officials and the building was evacuated, according to an arrest report. No bombs were found, but school officials did discover two steak knives taped together forming one large knife, the report said. The boy told the Citrus County Sheriff's Office that he wanted to hurt another student, but he did not intend to actually do it. The boy was turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Bids for renovation
delayed until Dec. 4
INVERNESS _ Long-planned renovations for downtown Inverness will be delayed at least one more week. The city has announced it will open contractors' bids on Dec. 4 instead of Nov. 27, as originally planned. Inverness, using an $825,000 state grant, wants to add old-fashioned street lamps, imitation brick crosswalks, extra landscaping and wider sidewalks downtown. The project has experienced several delays and setbacks.
