Pavel Kubina will sit out tonight against the Islanders as a healthy scratch. It is the third game in five the defenseman has been benched.
"He's out," coach John Tortorella said, adding he is "absolutely disgusted" at the way Kubina answered the challenge of his previous benching.
Kubina returned with a bang after his two-game scratch last week. He scored his first goal of the season during the third period Sunday to tie the Hurricanes, leading to a 2-1 overtime victory.
Kubina played 19:58 of Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Flyers with one shot on goal. He was muscled off the puck by John LeClair during a sequence that led to LeClair's winning goal.
Asked to critique how he played, Kubina said, "It's not my opinion. You have to ask the coaches."
Asked how he will handle the scratch, he said, "All I can do is work hard."
