Couples celebrate decades together

Marian and Walter Post of Palm Harbor celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at a party hosted by their children at the Tradewinds Sirata Beach Resort, St. Pete Beach. They met in a church-sponsored group and were married June 13, 1942, in Stanfordville, N.Y.

They came here in 1970 from Stanfordville, where they owned and operated a farm and Agway store. They have a son, Neil, Palm Harbor; a daughter, Joy Beardsley, Waldoboro, Maine; two granddaughters, Jessie Horton and Stefanie Post; and two great-grandchildren, Emily and Blake Horton. They enjoy travel, nature and community involvement.

Beverly and Dante Gionta of Dunedin and formerly of Clearwater celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family weekend celebration at Disney World, a Caribbean cruise and a dinner party with friends at Feather Sound Country Club. They were married Oct. 18, 1952, in Queens, N.Y.

They moved to Atlanta from Herricks, N.Y., came to Clearwater in 1963 and moved in 1990 to Dunedin. He worked 32 years as a sales representative for a major textile manufacturer, and she worked as an executive secretary for Coca-Cola in New York City. He is an Army veteran of World War II and served in the 78th (Lightning) Infantry Division.

They have two daughters who live in the area, a son in Tennessee and five grandchildren. She is an active member of the Clearwater Community Woman's Club and a volunteer at The Haven and for Meals on Wheels. She likes to play bridge; he likes sports and reading. They both enjoy travel.

Joan and Bob McCauley of Clearwater celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a cruise on Royal Caribbean's Explorer of the Seas accompanied by their children and grandchildren. They were married Nov. 15, 1952, in Lancaster, Pa.

They came here in 1991 from Lancaster. He retired from State Farm Insurance in Bloomington, Ill.; she is a homemaker. They have two daughters, Karen Ann Beaver and Linda Suzanne Steffy; and a son, Neil, all of Lancaster County, Pa.; and eight grandchildren. They are members of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, the Elks and the Moose Lodges. He is vice president of On Top of the World Pennsylvania Club, and she is an officer with the On Top of the World 9 Hole Golfers.

Mary and Ralph Leidy of Clearwater celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a cruise accompanied by several family members and a reception at the local Salvation Army center in Clearwater. High school sweethearts, they were married Nov. 17, 1952, in their native Coshocton, Ohio, just before entering the Training College for Salvation Army officers in New York.

They came here in 1992 from New York. Together they served as Salvation Army officers, and ministers and administrators of programs and social services throughout the Northeast. They were divisional commanders of the Salvation Army in Puerto Rico and retired as administrators of the Williams Residence, a high-rise senior citizen facility operated by the Salvation Army in the upper west side of New York. He is a Navy veteran of World War II and participated in the occupation of Japan. They are active volunteers for Salvation Army programs.

Geleater and Charles Rutledge of Clearwater celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a family weekend in Orlando hosted by their children and their families. They are both natives of Clearwater and were married here on Nov. 19, 1942.

He is a building contractor and she is a homemaker. They have six children, 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. They are active members of Mount Zion United Methodist Church of Clearwater.
