Nicole Keon, daughter of Lee and John Keon of New Port Richey, is a recent graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, receiving a doctorate in environmental science.
She is a 1992 graduate of Gulf High School and a 1996 graduate of the University of Rochester in New York.

NEW PORT RICHEY _ Cristina Mantilla, daughter of Cecilia Wilson Forero and German Hugo Mantilla of New Port Richey, graduated from the University of Tampa with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in sociology. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and was named to the dean's list in 1999-2000.
She is a 1997 graduate of River Ridge High School.
Scout leaders receive
honors for service
NEW PORT RICHEY _ The West Central Florida Council, Twin Rivers District, Boy Scouts of America recently honored scout leaders for outstanding service at an annual banquet.
William Koah, Troop 180, received the District Committee Key; David Sweeney, Troop 91, the Scoutmasters Key and Debra Meyer, Pack 28, the Cub Scouter Award.
Spark Plug Awards went to individual Scouting units for exemplary service. Recipients are Kathy Hess, Pack 7; Jim Keegan, Pack 55; Jennifer Petitta, Pack 78; Barbara Kelshaw, Pack 86; Carolyn Clogston, Pack 149; Jim Pagano, Troop 46; Dave Shipe, Troop 86; Dave Sweeney, Troop 91; Joe Saponara, Troop 177; David Van Overbake, Troop 180 and Ralph Salgado, Ship 967.
Only two District Awards of Merit, the highest award a district can present a volunteer, are awarded. Recipients are Burt Golub, District Exploring/Venturing chairman and adviser of crew 604 and Al Blalock, Scoutmaster of Troop 8.
Auxiliary Unit hosts
party for children
NEW PORT RICHEY _ Hudson American Legion Auxiliary Unit 335 hosted a Children's Christmas Party for 65 children from Northwest, Schrader and Hudson elementary schools.
Santa presented each child a gift and 12 bikes were given away.
The unit also assisted teachers with clothing and a donation for children at the school. Food baskets were filled for veterans and families in the community at Thanksgiving and were also presented at Christmas.
