Two recreational girls soccer teams sloshed their way to a 1-1 regulation draw on a rainy afternoon Feb. 22 in the Kinney Cup championship game.
The final of the Under-10 tournament, hosted by Hudson Youth Soccer, came down to a shootout, won 4-3 by the Li'l Devils against the Thunder.
"It was the weather," Thunder coach Dennis Smith joked.
On a more serious note, Smith added: "We were the only team that really gave them a run for the money. I was proud of our girls."
Brittany Boudreau of the Li'l Devils and the Thunder's Jenny Chacon scored in regulation with each adding a goal during the shootout.
Ashley Walker, Melanie Piro and Cristal Montes also scored for the Li'l Devils in the shootout.
The Thunder got shootout goals from Mikelanne Sheesley and Becky Reynolds.
The Thunder's Laura Cason and Brittanie Sistrunk of the Li'l Devils were the keepers.
