Joe Cino wants Citrus residents to bring U.S. flags and signs to the historic courthouse in Inverness on Saturday to show support for U.S. troops.
Much of the noon rally will be spontaneous, Cino said. He's still looking to schedule several speakers but said people in the crowd also would be able to share their thoughts at the microphone. People are asked to bring lawn chairs.
Patriotic music and a prayer vigil will round out the afternoon gathering, which Cino said will be similar to one held at the Inverness Wal-Mart during the Gulf War.
Cino feels inspired to plan a similar event as war against Iraq seems inevitable, he said.
An Army veteran, Cino said he is politically opposed to the war but doesn't want members of the armed forces to experience the scorn he and others felt when they returned from Vietnam.
"This rally is not about politics," he said. "Whether you support the war or not, we want to support our troops. We want them to know we care in this county."
Anyone interested in participating during the program can call Cino at 628-7191.
