Sewage bypass will allow work on broken pipe

City workers are building a bypass around a massive sewage pipe that was damaged a few weeks ago on Cayuga Avenue. About 1,500 feet of temporary piping is being installed along Channel Drive and Chesapeake Avenue.

Once sewage is re-routed _ in about two weeks _ the city can fully inspect the permanent pipe, determine how extensive the damage is and assess how long it will take to fix, said Ralph Metcalf, director of the city sanitary sewers department.
