Motivation was hard to come by. The greens at Avila soaked up more than an inch of rain before tee-off and halfway through Thursday's final round endured an hourlong downpour.
Plus, Brittany Lincicome was leading by six strokes.
"After having that big a lead, I didn't even try," Lincicome said after winning the First American Title Avila Junior Classic. She shot a soggy 70 in the final round, stretching her lead to win by 11. There was so much water on the course, Lincicome said she had to take relief after almost every shot. Her three-day total was 207. Julieta Granada of Bradenton came in second with 218.
"After shooting a 65 (Wednesday) there wasn't too much the girls could do unless I fell apart today," Lincicome said.
Her 65 set an Avila Golf and Country Club Course women's record. She had seven birdies and no bogeys that day. Thursday Lincicome said she just tried to shoot an even 72. She had four birdies and two bogeys.
This was Lincicome's second time winning this tournament and her second American Junior Golf Association tournament win of the year.
