A confused pilot landed a private plane at MacDill Air Force Base on Thursday. After being told of his mistake, the pilot took off.
1st Lt. Michal Kloeffler, deputy chief of public affairs for the base, said MacDill's proximity to other airfields _ including Peter O. Knight and Tampa International _ sometimes confuses pilots.
"A lot of times pilots mistake our airfield for one of those airports," Kloeffler said.
While it's not a regular occurence, when it happens the FAA contacts the pilot and explains the mistake, she said. Then the reoriented pilot takes off again.
