Inca is a small but spirited mix-breed dog with short brown fur. She came to the Humane Society after being picked up outdoors without a leash and her owners decided to give her up in lieu of paying the county's "no leash" fine. Ironically, Inca enjoys walking on a leash. She also gets along well with all animals. Inquiries about adopting Inca or other dogs and cats may be made at the Humane Society of Hernando County shelter at Wiscon and Mobley roads, south of Brooksville. The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. The shelter is run strictly on donations; no government subsidies are provided. There is a $65 adoption fee to cover the cost of some shots, spaying/neutering and deworming. The shelter is also expanding its "Adopt a Cat" month program; the fee on all kittens and cats has been reduced to $35, which includes neutering or spaying.
