Bev and Gene Simmet of Clearwater recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. They were married May 9, 1942, in New Ulm, Minn., by a friend in the first marriage he performed as a commissioned Army chaplain.
They came to On Top of the World in 1983 from Minnesota, where he retired from Midwest Federal Savings and Loan, Minneapolis. She is a musician, and her career included professional performing on television and radio, and many years as a teacher. She continues to teach and play organ and keyboard for fellow residents. The couple enjoyed drag racing for many years and on their 30th anniversary raced each other. They also enjoyed fishing in the northern Minnesota lakes. They have many trophies for both hobbies.
Ramona and Chet Wolfe of Largo celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner dance held by their children at Banquet Masters, Largo. They were married June 13, 1953, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport, Iowa.
They came here in 1976 from Davenport, where he owned and operated a garage and locally he worked in air conditioning and she worked in home health care. They have four children, Denise Smith, Dawn Smith and Gary and Mark Wolf, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. They are members of St. Justin Martyr Catholic Church, Largo, and are active in several bowling leagues.
Gladys and M. Dean Milliron of Palm Harbor, formerly of New Port Richey, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family on a seven day Western Caribbean cruise, which was a gift from their two sons. They were married June 13, 1953, in Timblin, Pa.
They came to New Port Richey in 1988 from Erie, Pa., and moved in 1993 to Palm Harbor. He retired after 35 years from the U.S. Postal Service, where he served as a branch manager. She is a homemaker. They have two grandchildren. They are members of the Men's and Women's Golf Leagues at Highland Lakes.
Rita and Manny Widman of Tarpon Springs recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a dinner and reception given by their three sons and families at Louis Pappas Riverside Restaurant, Tarpon Springs. They were married June 13, 1953, at Buffalo State College's Interfaith Chapel, Buffalo, N.Y.
They came here in 1996 from Washington Township, N.J. He retired with the rank of commander after 30 years in the Navy and his last duty was at the Philadelphia shipyards in Pennsylvania, across the river from their home in Gloucester County, N.J. He later worked as director of surveillance at the Showboat Casino in Atlantic City. She retired after 20 years as an elementary schoolteacher in New Jersey. They are active in the Moose Lodge, the Elks Lodge, the Rotary International Military Officer's Association of America and he is a member of the Masonic Lodge in Bremerhaven, Germany, the Scottish Rite and Shrine.
During his naval career they lived three years in Germany, four years in Italy and still enjoy traveling. They are planning a trip to Hawaii. All three of their sons also served in the military.
