Authorities have identified the driver and passenger involved in a one-car accident Monday night as Hernando County resident Douglas H. Williamson and 22-month-old Gabriel Williamson. Williamson, 31, of Bradenton Street, south of Brooksville, was driving north on U.S. 41 near Dale Mabry Highway about 8:30 p.m. Monday when he apparently fell asleep at the steering wheel and lost control of his car, a Florida Highway Patrol report said. Both Williamson and the boy were airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, where they were listed in fair condition late Tuesday. The relationship between Williamson and the boy remained unclear. A Pasco Fire Rescue battalion chief erroneously reported the wreck as a fatality Monday night. Investigators said Williamson swerved across the road, drove into a retention pond and over a culvert before stopping near train tracks, the report said. No charges were filed pending the outcome of a blood-alcohol test. An investigation in under way.
