Beach bacteria levels high

Published Sep. 1, 2005

People heading to Oelsner Park Beach in Port Richey or the Energy and Marine Center in New Port Richey should be wary of the water, according to health officials. The Pasco County Health Department has advisories in effect for both beaches after finding high levels of enteric bacteria in the water. The bacteria indicates fecal pollution, which can cause disease, infections or rashes. Health officials lifted an earlier advisory for the Robert J. Strickland Beach in Hudson, however, after later tests showed lower levels of bacteria.
