New FishHawk school gets a name

The new elementary school in FishHawk Ranch will be called FishHawk Creek Elementary, Hillsborough County School Board members decided Tuesday night. It will be the second elementary school within FishHawk, a growing community of young families. FishHawk Creek will open in August and will provide relief to 3-year-old Bevis Elementary, which is 20 percent above capacity with close to 1,100 students. FishHawk Creek will have a capacity of 950 students, but a boundary proposal to be considered in coming weeks by the School Board has the school opening with about 320 students. At least 280 of those students, who live in the eastern half of FishHawk Ranch and in nearby FishHawk Trails, would transfer from Bevis.

Yates assistant goes to Bing

VALRICO _ The School Board on Tuesday selected Roger Stanley, assistant principal of Yates Elementary, as principal at Bing Elementary in Tampa. District officials don't know yet when a replacement for Stanley will be chosen. Steve Ayers, who works on school boundary changes affecting thousands of families, was promoted from administrator for pupil administrative services to director. He replaces Bill Person, now principal at Tampa Bay Technical High School. Next month, the board is expected to name a replacement for Area 7 Director Ken Otero, who recently was given the job of assistant superintendent for administration.
