Smoker on Cayman flight fined

Published Sep. 2, 2005

In what might have been the most expensive cigarette he ever smoked, a Dunnellon man was fined nearly $1,000 on Wednesday for smoking aboard a Cayman Airways flight. Kenneth Carroll, 50, pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay his court costs and $937. He was caught smoking Monday in the lavatory. Prosecutor Gail Johnson said the captain smelled the smoke as he descended into the Grand Cayman airport. When he sent a flight attendant to check on the bathroom, Carroll emerged in a cloud of smoke. He was detained when the plane landed.
