MEET THE AUTHOR: Crystal River novelist Gay Courter will speak about her book, The Midwife, as well as the importance of community service at a free event from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Jerome Multipurpose Room at the Lecanto campus of Central Florida Community College, on County Road 491 S. Courter is a film, television, fiction and nonfiction writer. She and her husband, Philip, have produced more than 150 documentary and educational films. For the past 12 years, Courter has served as a volunteer in the Florida Guardian Ad Litem program with an active caseload that includes neglected and abused children. Her nonfiction book about her work as a children's advocate, I Speak for This Child: True Stories of a Child Advocate, was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.
