Orlando Bishop Moore earned both team titles with an impressive performance but several local schools also fared well in Saturday's Class 2A, Region 2 meet at Lecanto High School.
The Lecanto girls, led by Deirdra Witherspoon's fifth-place finish, were second. Crystal River, led by a fourth-place showing from Holly Van Sicklen, took third. Both squads advanced to state.
Citrus wasn't as fortunate. The Hurricanes placed seventh and were one point behind sixth-place St. Augustine Menendez. Kaela Fitzpatrick (10th) had the Hurricanes' top finish. On the boys side, Lecanto was the only county squad to advance.
The Panthers were third. Citrus finished 11th, ending the Hurricanes' streak of reaching state at eight straight years. Witherspoon was one of three Lecanto runners to place in the top 20. Freshman Taylor Cooke, who claimed the district title a week ago, was 12th while Annemarie Saxer took 18th.
Lecanto, ranked sixth, was 21 points behind Bishop Moore.
