Henman ousts Roddick in Paris
Andy Roddick slammed his racket to the court and hit himself in the head with it while losing to Tim Henman 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (9-7) in the Paris Masters semifinals. Henman converted his sixth match point to improve to 2-1 this year against Roddick. Henman faces Andrei Pavel, who beat No.14 Jiri Novak 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
New England wins playoff game
Rookie Pat Noonan and Dario Fabbro scored to lead visiting New England to a 2-0 win over the MetroStars in the opening round of the MLS playoffs. Under the league's new format, the two-game series switches to Foxboro, Mass., on Nov.9. The team with the most goals in the two games advances.

VOLLEYBALL: The United States beat South Korea 25-21, 25-19, 21-25, 22-25, 15-13 in a tiebreaker in the opening match of the Women's World Cup in Tokyo. It is a 12-nation tournament that serves as a qualifier for the 2004 Olympics.
