NORTHDALE FIRE STATION: Hillsborough County staff will hold a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the proposed Northdale Fire Station. The public is encouraged to attend at the Northdale Recreation Center, 15550 Springpine Drive. The $1.1-million project is scheduled to begin in late 2005 and will include a two-bay, 6,000-square-foot building on the south side of Mapledale Boulevard. Construction is expected to be complete by late 2006. Call 272-5275.

TRAFFIC CALMING: Interested residents are encouraged to attend a public meeting to discuss traffic calming along North Street in the Town 'N Country area. Hillsborough County staff will hold the meeting as part of the county's Residential Traffic Control Program. Traffic problems exist from Axelrod to its eastern end, near the intersection of Hillsborough Avenue and Hanley Road. Based on this meeting, a recommendation will be given to county commissioners; the installation of speed humps could be a solution. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Town 'N Country Elementary School, 6025 Hanley Road. Call 272-5275.

RACE TRACK ROAD WIDENING: A public meeting, scheduled by Hillsborough County staff, will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday to discuss the remaining three phases of design plans for the widening of Race Track Road. The four phases of the project include Hillsborough Avenue to Douglas Road, Linebaugh Avenue to Douglas Road (discussed at a public meeting on May 23), Nine Eagles Drive to Linebaugh Avenue, and Nine Eagles Drive to S Mobley Road. The design is expected to be completed by early 2004.

CITIZEN BOARDS APPLICANTS SOUGHT: Hillsborough County residents are asked to volunteer for a variety of citizen advisory boards and councils. Volunteers serve without compensation and may be required to file financial disclosure forms. Applications are available in the commissioners' reception area at County Center, 601 E Kennedy Blvd. The deadline is Dec. 4. Call 272-5314.

NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR MORAL COURAGE AWARD: Residents of Hillsborough County who have demonstrated exceptional ethical behavior and moral courage are eligible to be nominated to receive the 2004 Moral Courage Award. Hillsborough County commissioners are accepting nominations from individuals or a group whose actions have made a difference in the community. Anyone may submit a nomination. The deadline is Dec. 5.
