Two accused of raping woman in motel room

(ran PW, PS editions)

Two Tarpon Springs men were arrested Friday on charges of sexual battery after a woman accused them of raping her in a room at the Valu-Lodge at 6523 U.S. 19.

The woman told police she had met the men through mutual friends. She said one of the men, Joseph Anthony Rios, rented a room, and she went with him inside, where they began to talk in the early morning hours on Oct. 26, according to city police.

The woman said the other man, Terrence D. Raggins, soon joined them, police reported.

The woman, whose name was not released, told police that both men forced her to perform sexual acts multiple times while she told them to stop, the report said. She told police that she was in shock and passed out on the bed.

She said that when she awoke the men again forced her to perform multiple sexual acts, the report said.

Rios, 28, of 1520 Starlight Cove, and Raggins, 33, of 1531 Starlight Cove, were being held in the county jail Saturday in lieu of $40,000 bail apiece.
