Zephyrhills scores at Class A meet

Diver Glen Switzer placed 15th Saturday afternoon to give Zephyrhills its first points at a state meet.

At night, Bulldogs coach Brian Vaile put the onus on his 200-yard freestyle relay team in the Class A championships at the North County Aquatic Complex.

"I told them, "It's going to be a long ride home if (Switzer) scores as many points as you four,' " Vaile said.

Adam Heisner, Brian Merle, Marky Beverlin and Justin Gardner met their coach's challenge, finishing 14th with a school-record time of 1 minute, 34.92 seconds.

Zephyrhills scored eight for 37th place.

Jacksonville Bolles continued its dominance. Its boys won their 16th straight and 26th overall title while the girls team won its 13th straight and 17th overall.

Three other North Suncoast divers competed. Switzer's teammate, Randy Mueller, placed 24th. Crystal River's Aaron Washington was 18th, and Keri Boltin, the area's lone female diver, 37th.

Pasco's top finish was 19th in the 200 free relay, but neither the Pirates nor Crystal River scored.
