Grant will provide museum assistance

The Citrus County Historical Society Inc. and the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum on the Courthouse Square have received a $6,228.78 grant from the Florida Department of State, through the Historical Museum Grants-in-Aid program, for a general operating support grant to the museum.

The original grant application of $25,000 was reduced due to budget cuts earlier this year. The funds will be used to provide assistance and guidance to the museum as the institution takes steps toward accreditation through the American Association of Museums, said Kathy Turner Thompson, museum director.

The grant will assist with refinement of the collection policy, development of a collecting plan and general stewardship of the collection.
