HILLSBOROUGH OBITUARIES

BADE, JANET MARJORIE, of Tampa, died Thursday (Oct. 30, 2003). Born in New Jersey, she moved to Tampa 33 years ago from Chicago. She attended Stetson University and worked as an accountant. She was a member of Bayshore Presbyterian Church and volunteered at the Children's Home Inc., of Tampa. Survivors include her husband, Arthur; two sons, Andrew and Eric; two daughters, Jennifer and Julie; two sisters, Phyllis and Carol; and nine grandchildren. BOWMAN, CHARLES LEE, 63, of Tampa, died Wednesday (Oct. 29, 2003). He was a musician, DJ and an auctioneer. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Donna; two sons, Richard and Anthony Bowman Sr.; three daughters, Melinda Kelley, Melissa Ross and Melody Bidwell; brother, Delbert Bowman; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. CAMPBELL, JUNE C., 82, of Tampa, died Saturday (Nov. 1, 2003). Born in Washington, D.C., she moved here in 1947. Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy J. Flasher; a son, Jackie R. Murray, Utah; two stepdaughters, Lea Hunt, Gulfport, and Robbie Pouliot; three sisters, Irma Sponsler, Annapolis, Md., Betty Doris Brizendine, Rockville, Md., and Theresa Bakersmith, Riverdale, Md.; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. CONSAGRA, MARIA ELENA "HELEN," 82, of Tampa, died Friday (Oct. 31, 2003). Born in Cuba, she moved here 79 years ago. Survivors include a son, James "Jim" Consagra Jr.; a daughter, Teresa Vergara; a sister, Hilda Acosta; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Gonzalez Funeral Home, Tampa.

DAVIS, ARTHUR L., 81, of Plant City, died Saturday (Nov. 1, 2003). Born in Kingsland, Ga., he moved here more than 50 years ago from Dade City. He was retired from Plant City Steel and was Baptist. Survivors include his wife, Sarah E.; a son, Jimmy L. Davis; a daughter, Loretta "Frances" Clark, all of Plant City; two brothers, Sherman and Lewis Davis, both of Fort Meade; sister, Geneva Davis, Waynesville, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. DUNHAM, MARY ANN REED, 48, of Tampa, died Sunday (Nov. 2, 2003) at home. Born in Tampa, she was a graduate of Hope College, Michigan, and did graduate work at Michigan State University. She was employed in the insurance industry and was a member of Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church, and was a leader in Community Bible Study. Survivors include her husband, John; a daughter, Samantha Jane Rodgers; her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Robert H. Reed; and a sister, Jane Reed. Neptune Society of Palm Harbor.

EMMONS, WILLIAM E., 79, of Riverview, died Friday (Oct. 31, 2003) at home. Born in Hartford, Conn., he moved here in 1990 from Windsor, Conn. He was an Army veteran of World War II and worked at Pratt & Whitney Division of United Technologies for 37 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Millbrook Golf Club, Windsor Lodge 2060, BPOE, and Bishop McAuliffe Council 3181, Knights of Columbus. He was a pitcher in the Semi-Pro Twilight Baseball League in Windsor. Survivors include his wife, Josephine; four sons, William Emmons, Windsor, Michael Emmons, Amston, Conn., James Emmons, Smithfield, R.I., and Jeff Emmons, Columbia, S.C.; three brothers, Walter, New Port Richey, Edwin, East Granby, Conn., and Earl, Valrico; two sisters, Hazel Jacobsen, Raymond, Maine, and Patricia Porteus, Brandon; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. ENGELBRECHT, WALDO ERNST, 91, of Tampa, died Thursday (Oct. 30, 2003). Born in Bay, Mo., he attended the University of Dubuque in Iowa and was a graduate of Northwestern University. He retired from Union Oil Co. in 1974. He was a member of Forest Hills Presbyterian Church. Survivors include a son, Bill Engelbrecht, Buffalo, N.Y. Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, Brandon.

FERNANDEZ, ANTONIO R. "TONY," 55, of Tampa, died Saturday (Oct. 18, 2003). Born in Key West, he moved here in 1974. He worked for Hillsborough County for more than 19 years as an electronic technician and was president of his union, AFSCME Local 167 for five years, a member of the executive board for Local 167 for three years and served on AFSCME Council 79 executive board for city and county employees. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge 25, Tampa. Survivors include his wife, Jan Trevett; son, Frank Chavez, Tampa; two sisters, Desiree Nilka Fernandez and Raquel Fernandez Barcenilla; a brother, Roberto Fernandez; and several nieces and nephews. FISHER, ELEANOR M., 86, of Tampa, died Friday (Oct. 31, 2003). She was a former vice president of SunTrust Bank of Fort Lauderdale until 1987, when she retired and moved to Tampa. FLEIG, ESTHER, 87, of Riverview, died Saturday (Nov. 1, 2003). She was Baptist. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Albert; a son, Scott Clark; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, Brandon.

HODGES, EARL C., 74, of Tampa, died Friday (Oct. 31, 2003). He worked for Seaboard Railroad and retired from TECO after 38 years. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II and served in the Tampa Police Auxiliary. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mildred "Millie;" two sons, Earl Jr. "Buster" and David C. "Buddy;" a brother, John; four sisters, Julia Castronover, Alice Scheiern, Shirley Freeman, and Betty Evertt; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. HUNT, HELEN R., 77, of Tampa, died Friday (Oct. 31, 2003) at home. Born in Deucher, Ohio, she moved here several years ago. She was a member of Seminole Heights Baptist Church. KRAMAS, HELEN P., 86, Manchester, N.H., formerly of Valrico, died Friday (Oct. 31, 2003). Born in Derry, N.H., she moved here 15 years ago, and recently moved back to New Hampshire. She was a member of the Buckhorn Country Club, Valrico. Survivors include two daughters, Susan Wieczorek, Manchester, and Donna Savery, Greenville, Maine; a son, Joseph E. MICHAELS, JOHN PETER, 89, of Tampa, died Saturday (Nov. 1, 2003). Born in Elizabeth, N.J., he moved here several years ago. He was a ship's carpenter, a member of Gateway Baptist Church and Temple Terrace Lodge 330, F&AM. Survivors include a daughter, Clara Miller; four sons, David Emory Wood, Robert Earl Wood, Paul Peter Michaels and Guy Michaels; a sister, Catheryn Butler; 11 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. NASH, MARY, of Tampa, died Thursday (Oct. 30, 2003). A native and lifelong resident of Tampa, she retired from SAL/SCL Railroad after 37 years and was Catholic. Survivors include her husband, Donald M.; a brother, James W. Middlebrook; a niece, Jill Corrado; and a nephew, Jeff C. Middlebrook. Gonzalez Funeral Home, Tampa.

REITH, CAROLE SALERNO, 65, of Tampa, died Friday (Oct. 31, 2003). Born in Norwalk, Conn., she moved here in 1964. She was a graduate of Eckerd College and received her master's from the University of New Orleans. She was an artist, a member of Professional Association of Visual Artists and was curator and manager of JJ Watts Gallery at A Taste For Wine in St. Petersburg. Survivors include her husband, Edward; four sons, Edward Reith, Douglas Galvin Jr., Scott Galvin and Dennis Reith; a brother, Louis Salerno; and four grandchildren. TOOTLE, THERON JOSEPH "T.J.," 82, of Tampa, died Friday (Oct. 31, 2003). He was an Army and Air Force veteran, retiring in 1964. Survivors include two sisters, Shirley Gearen and Gail Ford; three nieces, Susan Suarez, Wanda Gomez and Jennifer Crosby; and a nephew, Scott Gearen. Florida Mortuary & Cremation Services, Tampa.

VAUGHN, JEREMY THOMAS, 24, of Tampa, died Friday (Oct. 31, 2003) in a motorcycle accident. Survivors include his parents, Joel and Debbie; a brother, Jared; and a grandmother, Virginia Wade. Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, Brandon.
