Man, 29, arrested on sexual battery charges

A man was arrested Monday on charges of sexual battery after a 9-year-old girl's mother told deputies she walked in on him and the girl while both were naked in the girl's bedroom.

Steven Thomas Cook, 29, 6460 W Moss Lane, Crystal River, forced the girl to undress at knifepoint Sunday night and then committed sex acts on her, according to statements the girl gave to sheriff's investigators.

Cook told detectives he was invited to the home after watching a late-night football game at a friend's home, but when he arrived, the woman made him leave because he was intoxicated.

He said that he walked to a church and fell asleep until he was awakened by a deputy. Cook was charged with sexual battery on a child and armed burglary and is being held without bail at the Citrus County jail.
