Three adults and a child were killed Tuesday when a car collided with two pickup trucks at a Polk County intersection surrounded by citrus groves.
A fifth victim was hospitalized in critical condition, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
Josefina Cruz Escamilla, 31, her son Angel Donjuan, 8, and her boyfriend Venancio Benitez, 33, all of Wahneta, were going west on Alturas-Babson Park Cutoff in a 1991 Cadillac Coupe de Ville.
A witness told the FHP that Cruz Escamilla ran a stop sign at Eighty Foot Road. The Cadillac was struck by a 1995 Toyota Tacoma driven by Christine Laney, going south on Eighty Foot Road, and by a 1999 Chevrolet S-10 driven by Peggy Boozer, going north.
Cruz Escamilla, her son and boyfriend were ejected and killed, as was Boozer, 42, of Haines City. None was wearing a seat belt.
Laney, 38, of Fort Meade, who was wearing a seat belt, was airlifted to Lakeland Regional Medical Center and listed in critical condition late Tuesday.
