A jury was picked Tuesday in the trial that begins today for Nicholas Demerie, charged with four counts of vehicular manslaughter in a fiery March 2, 2001, traffic crash that killed four people. Authorities say Demerie of New Port Richey was racing his Chevrolet Camaro on State Road 54, reaching speeds greater than 80 miles per hour, when he lost control of the car. According to investigators, Demerie veered across the median and hit a Plymouth Caravelle driven by Miqucalena Zorbas. Her sons, Anthony Zorbas, 14, and Robert Zorbas, 10, were killed as well as family friend Deziree Pozzi, 4. The crash killed Demerie's wife, Ann Marie Demerie.
