An 18-year-old was arrested Tuesday and charged with racing, driving with a suspended license and driving an unregistered vehicle.
About 8 p.m., Crystal River police saw James Austin Romaneo driving a silver Camaro 79 mph in a 45 mph zone.
He was speeding north on U.S. 19 near SE Eighth Terrace, according to an arrest report.
Romaneo said he was trying to beat a red Honda to the traffic light at U.S. 19 and State Road 44. He was taken to the Citrus County jail, but was released Wednesday morning after posting $1,000 bail.
