Tip leads to arrest of one suspect in credit union robbery

Sheriff's detectives said a tip Wednesday morning led them to arrest one man thought to be part of a duo of camouflage-wearing robbers who hit a credit union last week.

After negotiating with the Sheriff's Office crisis management team, Richard Allen Randolph Jr. walked out of the Ybor City home where detectives found him just before 3:30 p.m. Deputies charged Randolph, 24, with bank robbery.

Hillsborough deputies think Randolph and another man robbed Coast to Coast Credit Union at 8916 Sabal Industrial Blvd. on Jan. 14. Deputies said two armed men entered the credit union about 8 a.m. and demanded money. They used a car stolen from Mulberry to get away, deputies said.

Deputies released surveillance footage of the men after the robbery. On Wednesday, deputies said someone tipped them off to Randolph's whereabouts.

Detectives got a search warrant and headed to 1808 E 18th Ave. in Ybor City. Tampa police helped surround the area and a sheriff's crisis team member telephoned Randolph inside. Deputies persuaded him to surrender, and he was arrested without incident.

Records show Randolph has been arrested at least five other times in Hillsborough County since 2001.

Deputies still are looking for the second suspect.
