Springstead and Hernando are the favorites to advance to postseason play from next week's girls district tournaments.
The Eagles, 13-2-4 overall and 9-2-3 in district, are the top seed in Class 4A-9, which begins Monday at Leesburg. "It's a good spot to be in, but when it comes to districts, it's no-holds-barred," Springstead coach Randy Strat said. "We like our chances the way we've been playing, but by no means is it going to be a cakewalk."
If the seeds hold, the Eagles and Central could face off Wednesday in a semifinal. In 3A-6, host Pasco is the No. 1 seed. Hernando is No. 2 and plays Wednesday in a semifinal against Wildwood, which the Leopards beat twice during the regular season. "They have a feeling they'll get into the playoffs," Hernando coach Kristi Mule said.
Nature Coast is the fourth seed and meets last-seeded South Sumter on Monday.
