Pats hope it's not an omen

There was no trophy for Bill Belichick's namesake. The colt Belichick finished third behind two long shots in a $34,000 allowance sprint for 4-year-olds and up at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach. Belichick, named for the coach of the AFC champion Patriots, finished 2 lengths behind winner Parhelion. "He couldn't handle the winner," Belichick's jockey, Vernon Bush, said. "But he gave me everything he had." Parhelion put Belichick away at the top of the stretch before edging Aerial Command by a head at the finish line. Parhelion, ridden by Jerry Bailey, covered 7 furlongs in 1:24 1/5. Belichick, who opened as a 6-1 fourth choice, edged favorite Bahama John in a field of 10.
