Times writer to lead studies program

Jeff Klinkenberg, who has written about Florida culture for the St. Petersburg Times for 25 years, has been named Writer in Residence for the Florida Studies Program at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg.

Klinkenberg, 54, will lecture, lead class discussions, conduct writing tutorials and lead students and faculty on field trips. The appointment is for the spring semester. He will continue as Real Florida columnist for the newspaper's Floridian section.

He has twice won the Paul Hansell Award as the state's best reporter. A new collection of his newspaper writing, Seasons of Real Florida, is to be published this year by the University Press of Florida.

The USF Florida Studies Program, the first of its kind in the state, offers undergraduate and graduate level classes in state and regional history, literature, politics, film and feature writing.
