Class 5A District 9

TEAMS: Palm Harbor, East Lake, Largo, Clearwater, Dunedin and Countryside

SCHEDULE: Monday _ Dunedin vs. Clearwater 6, Countryside vs. Largo 8; Wednesday _ Countryside/Largo winner vs. East Lake 6, Dunedin/Clearwater winner vs. Palm Harbor U. 8; Friday _ championship 7.

THE SKINNY: Countryside would likely have gotten a first-round bye as the No. 2 seed, but after forfeiting all their games due to using an ineligible player, the Cougars have to work their way past Largo into the semifinal, only to meet a short-handed East Lake team which lost four starters in the past week to injury and red cards. The Hurricanes are undefeated and the team to beat.

Class 5A District 10

TEAMS: Seminole, St. Petersburg, Boca Ciega, Dixie Hollins, Pinellas Park, Northeast, Gibbs

SCHEDULE: Monday _ Pinellas Park vs. St. Petersburg 4, Northeast vs. Boca Ciega 6, Dixie Hollins vs Gibbs 8; Wednesday _ Boca Ciega/Northeast winner vs. Pinellas Park/St. Petersburg winner 6, Dixie/Gibbs winner vs Seminole 8; Friday _ championship 7.

THE SKINNY: Seminole had some shaky moments early, losing four in a row, but the Warhawks have regrouped and finished with an unblemished district record. After suffering the loss of a few starters, St. Petersburg looks strong in the final stretch as the No. 2 seed.

Class 4A District 10

TEAMS: Tarpon Springs, Ridgewood, Zephyrhills, Wesley Chapel, Hudson and Gulf.

SCHEDULE: Monday _ Hudson vs. Wesley Chapel 6, Gulf vs. Zephyrhills 8; Wednesday _ Gulf/Zephyrhills winner vs. Ridgewood 6, Hudson/Wesley Chapel vs. Tarpon 8; Friday _ championship 7.

THE SKINNY: The big challenge for the Spongers is staying focused and not looking ahead to regions. Tarpon, which returned almost all of last season's state-semifinal team, went undefeated in this district, but if the Spongers aren't looking they could be vulnerable to an upset.

Class 4A District 13

TEAMS: Lakewood, Osceola, Southeast, Bayshore, Palmetto and Booker.

SCHEDULE: Monday _ Bayshore vs. Palmetto 6, Southeast vs. Booker 8; Wednesday _ Southeast/Booker winner vs Osceola 6, Bayshore/Palmetto winner vs. Lakewood 8; Friday _ Championship 7.

THE SKINNY: The Spartans are undefeated in the district. Though Osceola lost late in the season to Southeast, the Warriors seem destined to play Lakewood at least one more time and should meet in the district final. Last season Osceola knocked the Spartans out in a semifinal. Osceola's Erica Civello and Lakewood's Abbie Harms are in a battle for county scoring leader.

Class 3A District 9

TEAMS: CCC, Cardinal Mooney, St. Petersburg Catholic, Tampa Catholic, Academy of Holy Names, Robinson.

SCHEDULE: Monday _ Robinson vs. SPC 6, Academy vs. Tampa Catholic 8; Wednesday _ Robinson/SPC winner vs. Cardinal Mooney 6, Academy/Tampa Catholic winner vs. CCC 8; Friday _ Championship 7:30.

THE SKINNY: Marauders coach Tom Typrowicz wouldn't say his team dominated the district, but CCC managed to finish undefeated. The biggest battle is a likely semifinal match-up between St. Petersburg Catholic and Cardinal Mooney. The Barons lost a game and tied another with Cardinal Mooney and have to win to advance.

Class 2A District 8

TEAMS: Berkeley Prep, Shorecrest, Northside Christian, Keswick, Tampa Prep, Cambridge, Indian Rocks Christian.

SCHEDULE: Monday _ Tampa Cambridge vs. Tampa Prep 4, Indian Rocks vs. Shorecrest 6, Northside vs. Keswick 8; Tuesday _ Tampa Prep/Cambridge winner vs Indian Rocks/Shorecrest winner 6, Northside/Keswick winner vs. Berkeley 8; Friday _ Championship 7.

THE SKINNY: Shorecrest had little trouble getting through this district until it ran into Berkeley Prep. The Bucs are strong enough to win the district title, and Shorecrest will be challenged but should advance to the next round as well.
