THE LATEST: The Seminoles received big commitments Monday, Berniard and Atkins, helping fill one of their biggest needs _ offensive linemen _ for the future, maybe even 2004. THE LATEST: The Gators lost out on the state's No. 1 receiver when Melbourne Palm Bay's Xavier Carter committed to LSU. WR Doug Dutch chose Michigan. But they did round out a stellar offensive line with Trautwein, who described the Gators as his "dream" school. He is the fourth offensive lineman to orally commit. As far as its receiving corps, UF has a chance to pick up Hawthorne's Marcus Baker, who doubles as a corner, and John Dunlap of Hollywood Chaminade Madonna. South Carolina LB Robert Ayers is in the running with DE Mike Mangold (Merritt Island) and Palm Beach Gardens DE Willie Young.

THE LATEST: USF was late getting the attention of Hawthorne football/basketball star Cornelius Ingram (6-5, 215), but now has a chance to land the blue-chip quarterback. Ingram is looking at USF and Florida. Chris Leak's presence at UF could push Ingram, the Times' No. 13-rated prospect in Florida, toward the Bulls. He is expected to visit USF today and Wednesday. Dile (Auburn), Mompremier (Kansas) and Terrance Jones (Iowa) might be wavering. With three nonqualifiers from last year's recruiting class (DT Curtis Chance, DE Woody George and OL Rashid Lavergne) counting toward this year's total, the Bulls are maxing out on scholarships. Buie, Filer and Terrance Jones are among several who are on the fence (qualifying academically). But the only linebacker Miami has had a "soft" commitment from, Josh Johnson of Stone Mountain, Ga., says it is a four-team race that includes Florida, Georgia and Tennessee. LB Willie Williams of Miami Carol City, Miami Killian DB J.R. Bryant and Orlando Edgewater DT/TE Aaron Jones reportedly are torn between UM and FSU.

THE LATEST: Marietta DB Jason Venson, one of Atlanta's hottest prospects, toured the campus and was so impressed he might not visit Mississippi State this weekend. The Knights also are in the lead for Penscola Catholic DT Josh Sitton (6-4, 295), who visited last weekend. Then there's this surprising statement from Richard Israel, father of Orlando University quarterback Kyle Israel, who visited for the first time:"Kyle has been to Auburn, Alabama and Clemson and they don't have anything on UCF right now."
